Power can be used for good or for worse. It all depends on the foundation and character the person who holds that power has built. As we reflect this month on Black history, we can appreciate those who used their power to create real change.

The P is designed after the Brooklyn Dodgers logo as a subtle homage to the late, great Jackie Robinson. He used his power to pave the way for African American athletes.

The Side Patch is a whole different story.

Sometimes you have to be a Lion in order to be the Lamb you truly want to be. That quote inspired the side patch. Fannie Lou Hamer, Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, Rosa Parks, and MLK are powerful examples of people who fought because they desired to be a lamb.

The Color Palette is pulled from this incredible table I saw in a photo with Fred Hampton’s son and Fred’s wife in an office next to a picture of Fred. I’m deeply inspired by the life of Fred Hampton and the way he led the Panthers. Growing up, school taught me very little about the Panthers, and all I heard was that they used their power to be violent. As I got older, I did my own research and realized how wrong that is. If you feel the same, look into the work they did in their community, the goals they had, and the life of Fred. There is no arguing the fact that Fred used his power to love others.

The Fabric corduroy was picked because it doesn’t represent the top wealth or a fabric you would associate with people in the highest power. The 1960s was my favorite Civil Rights era. This corduroy represents the student, the worker, the people — you and me, all of us. It’s a call for everyone to use whatever power they have, big or small, for good. MLK said, “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” People together is POWER.

I love how this hat carries subtle, rich depth while still remaining simple. I hope this message of power can inspire us to build solid foundations so that when we have the chance to use power, we will inspire and build a better, more unified world.

– Trey

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0624/8054/8021/files/BHM-BROWNCOR1_e8cae0a2-9aa9-469b-a613-c4ad0c6ca3ab.jpg?v=1772067150
